Fulcrum Biometric Framework (FbF)

The Fulcrum Biometric Framework (FbF) is a multi-biometric application development framework that consists of a number of products which can be snapped together to rapidly deliver customized identity management solutions regardless of size or scale.  The FbF contains the following core modules:

  • FbF BioServer - a multi-biometric identification/matching server that is scalable through clustering and provides for a number of fault tolerant options.
  • FbF Application Server - a custom application logic system for industry specific solutions (e.g. Attendance, Access Control).
  • FbF Web Controls - a collection of browser independent web controls that talk to FbF Application Server, Matching Engine and FbF Device listener.
  • FbF Device Listener - a client side device manager and template generator that securely communicates to FBF Web Controls.

Fulcrum’s FbF technology is build around Microsoft’s .NET, Silverlight and SQL Server technologies making it a highly robust and reliable solution.  Through the use of Silverlight FbF web based applications achieve true browser independence unlike the outdated ActiveX/Internet Explorer technology paradigm.

The core technologies that Fulcrum Biometrics employs in the FbF framework are consistently ranked among the highest performing biometric identification systems available.

If your organization would like to speak with a Fulcrum sales representative about using FbF or to schedule a demonstration please contact our office or send us an online inquiry.

Access Control

One of the earliest solutions to incorporate biometric verification – and undoubtedly the most portrayed use of biometrics in Hollywood – biometric Access Control solutions allow you to restrict physical access through the use of biometric verification. Whether you want to simply control access to your private residence through an integrated solution such as What Do you Call It or if you need to maintain multi-level, enterprise access control throughout all of your facilities using a solution such as Futronic’s FB21 Fin’Lock Access Control, Fulcrum has both the hardware and software solutions to allow you to incorporate the advanced security of biometric verification into your access control and security model.

Scan and Pin

Although biometrics identification systems are often pursued for their advanced security capabilities, there is an equally important “convenience” value for being able to use an ever-present digit as a means of authenticating who you are. Scan & Pin is a solution that is designed to facilitate member identification in environments such as clubs, gyms, and training facilities. Instead of users being required to remember a PIN or to scan an ID card, Scan & Pin allows a simple fingerprint to instantly verify the membership status of the individual. This fast and convenient PC-based solution can be easily incorporated into your existing membership verification application.

Sendit Secure

This is one of the most innovative categories of biometric identification systems to hit the market yet. The concept behind Sendit Secure is that there are many industries where the convenience of email communication is often limited due to the sensitivity of the information being communicated. Imagine if both the sender and receiver of an email could have the confidence that the author and the reader are who they purport to be. The biometric device, Sendit Secure, ensures that only the intended recipient is able to access and read an electronic communication. Whether you are a healthcare provider dealing with the implications of HIPAA or a legal practice dealing with the sensitivity of attorney-client privilege, Sendit Secure is a unique and efficient means of ensuring the highest level of security in your electronic communications.

PC/Network Login

Whether you want to control user login for a personal computer or for an entire enterprise, Fulcrum offers solutions such as FinLogon by Futronic. This cost effective and scalable PC/Network Login solution allows you to increase the security of your network while simultaneously simplifying the logon process for your users. With solutions and prices designed to accommodate applications from a single user to 1,000+ users, these Windows Server Active Directory compatible offering can quickly bring state of the art biometric verification to your organization.

Time and Attendance

Finger on readerIf your organization manages a number of hourly employees or if you have remote workers in various locations then you understand the challenges of time and attendance. Whether you have to deal with employees who lose their time cards, employees who “forget” to punch in and out regulalry, or employees “helping” their buddies by signing them in and out, biometric-based time-clock software quickly and efficiently resolves many of the challenges associated with traditional time and attendance solutions.  Fulcrum Biometrics, in partnership with Legiant of Austin Texas http://www.legiant.com, has developed a simple yet highly functional program “The FbF Timeclock” to help small and medium sized enterprises deal with these challenges.

The FbF Timeclock application, which integrates seamlessly with the Legiant’s enterprise time and attendance software, allows a pc based kiosk, laptop or desktop PC to transform into a biometric time clock. In just a few seconds after placing their finger on the fingerprint reader, employees will be automatically identified and automatically punched in/out or transferred to a new department/project.

Administrators can select whether the clock will allow punches or department transfers by selecting either Punch Mode or FbF Timeclock ImageTransfer Mode. The application will run while minimized, so if the fingerprint reader is installed at the front desk, the receptionist can continue working while other employees clock in and out.

Administrators can access the administrator menu by entering in a passcode or using the fingerprint reader. Administrators can activate Enrollment Mode to quickly get employees setup on the time clock system. Once enrolled, employees can log in at any workstation with the FbF Timeclock and USB fingerprint reader installed.

Off-the-Shelf Solutions

Not all business objectives are best met with custom developed software. Often, the lower total cost and speed of implementation that is available with off-the-shelf biometric identification systems significantly outweighs the benefits of custom developed alternatives. This is particularly true for specialized technologies such as biometrics. Fulcrum has worked with a number of software and hardware vendors to bring our clients a broad offering of easy-to-install, easy-to-use, off-the-shelf biometric solutions. And, if you don’t see the solution that you are looking for, please give us a call and we can point you in the right direction to find the application you are looking for.  Check out our offering for:  Biometric Access Control Systems Biometric Time and Attendance Systems Biometric PC/Network Login Systems

Sensors and Software Dev. Kits

The two primary components of any biometrically enabled application are the biometric sensors that will be used to collect the images (face, finger, iris etc.) and the biometric algorithms that turns these images into useful biometric templates capable of being matched one against another.  The biometric sensors are generally single purpose devices that allow rapid and easy image collection.  An example is a desktop USB fingerprint sensor.  The biometric algorithms are usually provided to integrators in the form of software development kits or SDK's.  These SDK's provide software developers access to the complex biometric algorithm functions in more simple to use forms such as DLL's (Disk Loadable Libraries).  Fulcrum specializes in providing integrators with the right sensors and the righ software development kits to precisely accomplish your business objectives.

Fingerprint Scanners and Software Development Kits

Are you considering developing your own fingerprint biometric enabled solution or incorporating fingeprint biometrics into an existiong solution? If so, let us provide you with the hardware and software tools necessary to quickly incorporate accomplish this task. Fingerprint recognition is the most widely used form of biometric identification for both government and commercial applications and is a great place to start if you are just beginning to explore biometric identification systems.

The principal component required to develop any biometric solution is the identification/verification algorithm - which is included as part of a software development kit (SDK). This is the logic that allows biometric fingerprint scans to be compared against existing profiles to determine if there is a positive match. When considering an identification algorithm some key criteria to evaluate are matching speed versus matching accuracy. Based upon the number of biometric profiles (or templates) that will be evaluated, the accuracy latitude of the application, and the performance expectation of the users, Fulcrum can help you identify the best SDK to meet your development requirements. Our most popular fingerprint SDK - which offers an excellent balance of price, performance, and accuracy - is VeriFinger by Neurotechnology. We also offer FingerCell for embedded or mobile devices as well as MegaMatcher for larger AFIS scale applications both also developed by Neurotechnology.

While some SDK’s are designed to work only with their own proprietary hardware, most of our SDK’s, like VeriFinger, are designed to work with a wide variety of biometric devices. These acquisition devices include both standalone and embedded sensors that are designed to operate under a variety of environmental conditions. If you are looking for a highly reliable, desktop fingerprint scanner, our most popular model is the Futronic FS88 PIV Certified Scanner. This same fingerprint scanners core components are also available for customized hardware development in an OEM form factor. This is the FS88 OEM Module. We also carry numerous other fingerprint scanners such as the new UPEK Eikontouch 300, 500 and 700, the Digital Persona U.are.U 4500 or the Lumidigm Venus IP65 sensors for systems where failure to enroll is unacceptable If your solution requires identification in harsh, industrial environments, a scanner such as the CrossMatch Verifier 300 LC is an excellent choice.
